Method of applying the reflective stripe

You have been called in as a consultant to help the Hospital Administration determine the best method of applying the reflective stripe that is used to guide the Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) along their path delivering drugs to patients. There are two ways of applying the stripe (paint or coated adhesive tape) and three types of flooring (linoleum, I concrete or II concrete) in the facilities that use the AGVs. You have set up two identical "test tracks" on each type of flooring and applied the stripe using the two methods under study. You run 3 replications in random order and count the number of tracking errors per 1000 ft of track. Is there a significant difference between these conditions?

Linoleum I Concrete II Concrete
Paint 10.7 10.8 12.2

10.9 11.1 12.3

11.3 10.7 12.5
Adhesive 11.2 11.9 10.9

11.6 12.2 11.6

10.9 11.7 11.9

For hypothesis testing:

  • State which test you are using. State the cut-off value (?) you are using, if not provided.
  • State assumptions that need to be made, and test for them.
  • State the number of tails; justify one-tailed tests (if needed)
  • State the null and alternative hypotheses.
  • Calculate the test score, and give the corresponding p-value
  • State if you accept or reject the null hypothesis.

For linear regression:

  • Include the regression graph and the residual plot, properly labeled.
  • Test your assumptions.
  • Report the equation of the line, R2and the p-value. (Only possible through Data Analysis.)
  • Interpret the results. (So what? What does it tell you?)
