Mental Model/Mindsets Paper
Assume YOU were just hired as Innovation Vice President at Sully's Delivery in Dallas, TX.
Sully's also just acquired Peggy's Fresh Refrigerated Services this past week, as part of their strategic expansion plan. (Peggy's is located about 50 miles away from Sully's Headquarters. This firm specializes in refrigerated goods delivery not only in their zip code location, but also in Dallas, two other counties nearby, with some international distribution in Mexico.
Your first assignment is to ensure a fast transition bringing Peggy's into full service.
Sully's moves non-perishable goods & as a part of the company strategy, they want them to share delivery on the Peggy's refrigerated vehicles.
They expect that this will save some transportation costs, eliminate some duplicate deliveries, and maximize each trucks loading to help lower overall operating costs, especially since most are not fully loaded at the present time!
You've just been informed by the President that two key people at Peggy's, do not "buy into" this idea for various reasons.
Charlie Woods, Peggy's CFO with 15 years of financial background, strongly believes that the income stream will decline, if they cross the unwritten competitors agreement not to tread in each others territory! Since he's been around a long time, knows key competitors by name, is highly regarded by the employees, he doesn't want to rock the boat!
Elliott Rodriguez, Peggy's Director of Distribution, oversees all the delivery drivers. He's also against placing dry goods on the refrigerated trucks. He claims that equipment breakdowns could result, like premature tire wear due to heavier loading, and frankly, he just doesn't like the idea of HIS Drivers would need to work harder, with more goods shipped on every load. He's also a long time valued employee with 22 years of service. His direct reports, as well as Peggy's executive suite also respect him.
The President just reminded you that YOU were hired to make this transition happen flawlessly! So, you have to find a very fast solution (He's given you 7 days), with the caveat that both individuals have great value, and they don't want to terminate them if YOU convince them to make the entire effort a success.
