Measles:
  1. The causative organism for measles is paramyxovirus.
  2. Disease spreading takes place through the nasal discharge and saliva of persons affected with measles by droplet infection.
  3. The first symptoms are sick feeling, fever, sneezing, running nose, cough and redness of eyes.
  4. Then rash appears behind the ears and slowly spreads all over the body.
  5. After three or four days the rash and fever disappear and this indicates the termination of the disease.
  6. In some cases, the effects of infection may persist for longer periods.
  7. There might be reduction in growth, mental deterioration and even paralysis.
  8. Vaccination is the first step to prevent it. This may reduce the incidence of the disease.
  9. The patient should be kept in isolation for one week from the time the first symptoms appear i.e., rash. This is only to reduce the spread of the disease.
