Question:
A scenario where this Standard may come into practice is if the company you work for pushes for up-coding as a means of a higher monetary reimbursement. It would be our ethical duty to code only those medical conditions and/or treatments that are exhibited in the health record. I know that it would be a tough situation to be in, but up-coding is fraud and unethical. These Standards are set as expectations and guidelines for our job, and knowingly up-coding goes against that, whether your company demands it or not.
