Mbb student-athlete reports to atf-left knee acl


Problem:

A MBB student-athlete reports to ATF one week s/p left knee ACL reconstruction. Patient ambulating with bilateral crutches, knee immobilizer set in 30 degrees of knee flexion, ACE wrap from mid-foot to mid-thigh. The patient follows instructions per MD and AT to come in for wound care and treatment. Patient reports pain level 4/10; soreness and warmth in left calf but no other symptoms. Patient states he has been compliant with performing daily exercises provided by MD, icing three times per day, and taking NSAIDs (Meloxicam) and nerve blocker (Gabapentin). After removing ACE wrap and wound dressings, surgical incisions are still covered with steri-strips; dried blood around incisions; incisions closed and healing well; no signs of infection; skin integrity good but dry and flakey; Betadine residue still present around the surgical area; normal skin temperature; moderate swelling at knee joint; Knee ROM - flexion = 106°, extension = -5°; strength not tested. Incisions cleaned with normal saline; clean sterile gauze applied over steri-strips; ACE wrap applied; ice bag for 20 minutes over ACE wrap; instructed patient to continue with HEP, icing, and medication as prescribed; keep dressings on until next appointment; lotion skin with Aquaphor; patient to return to ATF
