Assignment Overview:
The Rhetorical Analysis essay sends the writer on a critical review of the rhetorical devices at work in a given text. It directs the writer to consider the strengths, weaknesses, rhetorical nuances, and devices at play in a text, along with the effect those devices have on the reader.
A rhetorical analysis is NOT a book report, a summation, or a critical response paper to determine whether or not you agree with a given claim.
Your rhetorical analysis will focus on Martin Luther King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" OR on Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal."
