The question of whether the God of the Old Testament is the same as the God of the New is one that resulted in the Marcion heresy or Marcionism. Marcion saw the God of the Old Testament as a cruel, wrathful, and judgmental God, but the God of the New Testament is loving and gracious. So the question is two-fold. a. Where do you see the love, mercy and compassion of God in the Old Testament (by the way, the OT is LOADED with those qualities, so examples are findable). b. Where do you see the judgment of God in the New?
