a. Many people think of Safety as the prevention of accidents. Why is this definition a very narrow view of the term safety? How would you define Safety?
b. There are four major factors that influence one's safety. Explain these factors (give an example of each).

2. Accidents: In the United States, accidents are the 4th leading causes of deaths (behind heart diseases, cancer and strokes).
a. What are the 5 leading accidental causes of death among college or university students?
b. Compare the present accidental death rates with the rates in the early 1900s (see textbook).
c. What can you do to prevent accidents and protect lives?
