"Managers must embrace the law to avoid the law." This presents a very negative view of the law as something managers simply abide by for the sole purpose of avoiding the consequences that come with not obeying the law. I would suggest that obeying the law does not itself a good manager make but merely a competent and ethical one. I do not think following the law alone makes a good manager, but not following the law certainly makes a bad one.
Since our goal is not to be merely acceptable managers but rather GOOD managers, let's turn the tables a little bit and think of examples of how the laws enable us to be better managers. Provide an example of a law that empowers managers in serving their staff. Be sure to explain why and how you think the law is beneficial to HRM managers.
