Maintenance of Bituminous Roads:
The common defects noticed in a bituminous road are :
- potholes
- cracks
- rutting
- corrugations
- shoving
- stripping and loss of aggregates
- edge breaking
- loss of riding quality
- bleeding or fattened surface
- loss of skid resistance
- oxidation of bituminous surface
Potholes are repaired by cutting the damaged area to a rectangular shape, applying a tack coat and filling the area with premixed material and compacting. The premixed material is either produced with heated bitumen or preferably a cold mix made with emulsion.
