The software allows you to master appointment-setting, patient health record management, medical diagnoses and procedural coding, patient billing, and the patient's financial transactions in a practice. The purpose of this Portfolio Project is to give you real world experience as a future medical administrative assistant and to aid in building your employability portfolio.
Your portfolio is intended to be a place where you collect your work and showcase your achievements; a place where you can demonstrate intellectual growth and career readiness through the compilation of various pieces of work you have accumulated throughout your degree program. Building the portfolio throughout your academic career will allow you to set goals, establish a plan for growth, and stay on course for graduation and life-long learning achievements. The Portfolio Project for MAAT245 was designed to improve your research and writing skills, as well as provide you with pieces that you can include in your portfolio.
Directions
For this Portfolio Project, you are the Medical Office Manager at XYZ Family Practice. There are six separate parts to this Portfolio Project, each with a separate submission deadline. Carefully review all project directions and contact your instructor with any questions.
Part A: Application Paper
You are the Medical Office Manager at XYZ Family Practice. In your role as Office Manager, you must educate your staff on updates and changes in the field.
For this part, you will prepare an application paper that answers the following essential question: How can computers and medical software programs benefit a medical office?
In at least two pages, compose an application paper that contains the following:

o Describe various software and their uses in the medical office.

You are the Medical Office Manager at XYZ Family Practice. Using your textbook for guidance, create an orientation guide for "new interns" in a medical office using the newsletter template in MS Publisher or MS Word. Be Creative! Your newsletter will most likely be multiple pages, so be sure to add color, pictures and font that is readable and professional.

Part B: New Intern Orientation Newsletter Discussion
For this part of the Portfolio Project, you will begin to formulate your approach in creating a New Intern Orientation Newsletter. This is your opportunity to ask questions, collaborate with your peers and get feedback from your instructor.
In your Initial Post, respond to the following questions:
o What is the purpose of this project?
o What medium will you use and why (Publisher or Word)?
o Where will you find information for the required newsletter sections?
o What ideas do you have to make your newsletter authentic?
o What questions/concerns do you have about this project?
In your Follow-up Posts, provide constructive feedback to at least two classmates in order to help answer their questions, and/or guide them towards helpful sources.
Part C: Newsletter Rough Draft and Peer/Instructor Feedback Discussion In your Initial Post, submit a Rough Draft of your New Intern Orientation Newsletter that contains at least six completed sections.
Part D: New Intern Orientation Newsletter Final Copy
Upload and submit your final copy of your New Intern Orientation Newsletter. Please refer to the grading rubric below for Portfolio Project Part D.
Part E: Portfolio Project Reflection
In at least two pages, compose a reflection summary that addresses the following items, and includes an Introduction and Conclusion:
o How will you use the skills and knowledge gained from Medical Office Procedures/Electronic Health Records in your practice as a medical assistant or medical administrative assistant (biller and/or coder)?
o Why is this information and skill set important?
o Describe how electronic medical record keeping (filing and billing) impacts the front office.
o What happens if the front office runs inadequately?
o What are the consequences of poor office management? How does this reflect on the office, physician, and medical staff?
o How can you ensure that the front office runs smoothly and efficiently in the office/organization you will work in?
Part F: Submission to your Electronic Portfolio Account
Apply any further feedback from your instructor to revise and edit your complete project. After finalizing Parts A, D and E, upload your Portfolio Project to your electronic portfolio account.
Format your homework according to the give formatting requirements:
1. The answer must be double spaced, typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
