Learning more about health communication

Q1. Why are you interested in learning more about health communication? Or what specific public health or prevention topics interest you -- and why?

Q2. Next, describe a specific health problem you want to address in your community-level health campaign plan this semester (each student chooses a topic of interest). This health issue should be something that people could improve or prevent, by taking action or by changing their behavior, beliefs, knowledge, or attitudes. For instance, an eating disorders campaign (topic) for Batesville high school girls (audience) might debunk myths about eating disorders (beliefs), encourage them to learn the symptoms (knowledge/awareness), and seek counseling or join a support group (actions/behaviors) if they do need help. You might choose a topic you are already passionate about -- or find another health topic that interests you, such as these.

Q3. Who will you target in your campaign (audiences, organizations, etc.)? Describe relevant characteristics and/or demographics of your target audience(s). For instance, a vaping prevention campaign might target teens in rural high schools, a breastfeeding campaign might target female members of black churches, a child nutrition campaign might target low-income WIC recipients, a nutrition education campaign might target leaders of K-12 schools, etc.

Q4. Why is a health campaign needed to address this problem - or why is this issue important/significant right now? In your answer, provide at least one recent statistic showing why it is important to address.

Q5. What specific health advice would you promote in your campaign - or what specific action(s) would you like people to take, to help address your chosen health problem? If your target audience(s) did follow your advice, what kind of outcomes would you hope to achieve (knowledge, awareness, changes in attitudes or beliefs, action/behavior change, new long-term habits, etc.)?
