Leadership and Group Effectiveness
Effective teams need leaders with the ability to self-monitor-a key component in emotional intelligence (EQ). EQ is the ability of leaders to know themselves as well as to identify and influence the behaviors of others. EQ comprises five constructs: self-knowledge, self-monitoring, empathy, influence, and mastery of vision.
Leaders must know their hot buttons and understand what makes them upset and angry. Being able to monitor these feelings can prevent the feelings from surfacing and allow a more positive approach to the issue.
In this assignment, you will conduct a research on professional literature using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet to explore what makes a great leader. The literature may include relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov).
Tasks:
In a minimum of 400 words, respond to the following points:
Describe a situation wherein you were in a group and acted as a leader (relate the situation to the human services field, if possible).
Identify and discuss leadership traits and skills that you exhibited. What went well and what did not?
Examine the areas of EQ that you need to work upon.
