You are the new chief of medicine at an urban hospital in a large city. The hospital struggles with maintaining staff, and patient evaluations of care have been very poor. You include a quick internal scan of the staff and notice they are all non-Hispanic Caucasians, including yourself, serving a predominantly non-Caucasian population. You also notice that you have few to no residents or interns in the hospital due to your low performing status, meaning that there are probably few to no new research ideas being shared. You call a staff meeting to get a sense of how the staff is feeling and listen to their needs and suggestions. After listening, you lay out your plan for increasing quality and safety.
