Problem:
On the basis of the laboratory results indicating elevated rheumatoid factor, elevated ESR and CRP, and anticyclic citrullinated peptide, as well as synovitis on ultrasound in the affected joints, RA is diagnosed. Ms. Logan is started on ibuprofen and short-term low-dose prednisone. The rheumatologist discusses treatment options that are available to help control disease progression. Ms. Logan will most likely begin to use methotrexate to decrease the disease progression. She will follow up with the rheumatologist frequently until her disease is well controlled.
