Kinematics & Dynamics of Machines Coupler Curve Synthesis
1. Objective-
The objective of this project is to use software to develop a 4-bar link, given several required locations through which a point on the linkage must travel. The locations of the mechanism fixed points, O1 and O3, are given in table 1. The required locations through which a point on the linkage must travel are given in table 2.
The analysis must be performed using MATLAB. Please reference the supplemental information in the Assignments area on Blackboard for help on the method [1].
2. Grading Scale-
• Concise report documenting problem solving procedure and resulting program
• Analysis program - to be supplied to the instructor
- Program must run and produce output
- Generate points describing the position of P for a full revolution of the crank
- Modifiable for alternate link lengths and rotation steps
- Optional: Display of mechanism position

• Construction of mechanism, to any selected scale and from any selected material. Popsicle sticks will be made available to the class. Cardboard also works well.
Each item will be scored individually, with partial credit awarded at the instructor's discretion.
