Question: 1. It can be argued that the implicit use of consequentialist ethics is a management ploy to avoid discussion of intentions, feelings and the other things which actually make us moral and human. It moves any debate on morality into the world of objective facts in which many managers are more comfortable. Discuss.
2. Even if we accept that utilitarianism has a number of weakness, do we not all tend to be ‘local utilitarians'? (i.e. we feel it is right to produce the best result for those within a narrow range of family, friendship and obligation.)
