Problem: In Phaedo, Socrates claims that our souls are unseen; our bodies and the physical world are seen. In the Bible, the Apostle Paul says, "what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal" (II Corinthians 4:18). This sounds quite similar to what Socrates wrote. In addition, according to Socrates, our bodies, through their sensations of the physical world, badly affect our souls, and are the ultimate source of our errors, foolishness, and corrupt behaviors. Our souls, freed from our corrupt bodies, are good, and pure, and wise.
Is the Bible's view on the human soul the same as Socrates' view? If they are different, how are they different?
