Assignment task:
Chapman University produces an annual Fears of Americans poll. As discussed, genres can be based on current socio-political fears, and not just primal fears (the dark, shock, surprise). After reviewing the 2017 Poll in the readings, choose a fear. Based on that fear, what kind of genre film would you make? Comedy? Sci-Fi? Noir? Western? You might choose to use a metaphor or allegory to comment on that fear. You might boil down the fear (Fear of the President could be boiled down to fear of a leader or authority figure in a particular setting). Where would you set it? Distopia? Suburbia? An isolated country house? What would the conflict be? Is the antagonist outside the group, or inside? Briefly describe your story and how it ties into the fear.
