Is pop star or sports team warship a form of "opium" for the masses, or do these things have a redeeming social function in your opinion?
Pop stars and/or sports teams can form opium in a positive and negative light. Positively, It can create a massive connection for a large group that appreciates, and inspires individuals to play and get active, have a group to generate bonding while watching these events, and strategies being used in a non-professional game. Not to mention it creates passion and hobbies for all age groups, interactions and a support group. In contrast, due to passion and immersion; it can create havoc, disrespect, racist remarks, homophobia, sexism, and nationalism towards the individuals entertaining the audience. In addition, an expected amount treat these athletes or performers inhumanely because the audience would only want to be entertained - the entertainer's political, background, and voices are silent.
