Is polarization undermining American democracy? Why or why not? In answering this question, consider one or both of the following:
1. How does increasing polarization change the practice of politics? How do American political institutions (e.g. federalism, separation of powers) interact with these effects? For instance, do they moderate or enhance them?
2. What is/are the driving force(s) behind polarization and for how long do you expect it to persist?
