Problem:
It sure seems like culture explains so much about our development and diversity as humans. Development seems to be culturally specific, and also looks different across cultures. However, biological and stage-based theories offer a universal explanation of human development. Also, it sure seems like some of these theories are based only a narrow part of the human population.
Is our development more complex and fluid than biological and stage-based theories suggest? Does culture play a part? What are your specific thoughts about stage-based theories using the critical components? Are stage-based theories useful? Why? Or, why not? What would you suggest we use instead?
