Assignment Task:
You are an employee of a geological consulting company that has taken out an exploration license over an area in the Hartley district. Based on information from the regional geological map of the area, the senior exploration geologist has decided that the Hartley area is prospective.
The exploration manager has asked you to research the basic types of economic mineral deposits and to prepare a technical report on the area that includes a detailed map and extended key giving basic information about the rock types, the geological history of the area and the best localities to investigate for fossil fuels and each of the five main types of mineral deposits. The report should, at least in part, be readable by the company board full of non-specialist has-been politicians and overpaid board members. In the event of successful discovery, the exploration manager is aware of the concerns of the local landowners if a mine is developed.
She would like to investigate the possibilities of powering the mine site using environmentally friendly geothermal energy sources such as "hot dry rock" for generating power or for heating and cooling.
