Interpretation of native american/european relations

Problem: During the American Colonial time period, the different Native American tribes bound themselves together into larger confederacies, to deal with the Europeans from a position strength. These confederacies could broker better deals, and play off one European power against another, by alliances with competing European powers that offered 'better deals' to the Native American confederacies. In the earlier period, when the territory was contested between French, Dutch, Spanish, English, etc. Native American confederacies could choose who to ally themselves with against the other Europeans, and they dealt from a position of power. However, as the European presence started to become consolidated in just one European, ultimately only English, the situation began to change for the worse for the indigenous peoples.

How does this development mention above, transform your interpretation of Native American/European relations in the New World? (If it does) Why or why not?
