Assignment - Music Observation
Directions:
Your observation must be 1.5 typed pages (about 600 words), but no more than 2 full pages.
Choose a music example from the provided list on the Assignment page in Canvas.Once you've chosen a music example, spend about 40-50 minutes listening closely and taking notes of your observations (write down the time on the counter with each note so you can quickly reference it later). You may also research information that will help you better understand your example. Then formulate your observation about your music example.
I want you to make observations on two areas outlined below, but the specific details you discuss can go many directions.
1. Hear and articulate your understanding ofthe music'sorganization. Here you can discuss things such as the organization of melody and rhythm, or sections and form, or interactions and relationships between two or more instruments.
2. Connect history, cultural beliefs, performance context, musical concepts or other class material to what you hear.
If your example is exceptionally long, you don't need to discuss the entire example. I expect you to cover enough to make good observations about the example as a whole.
