Nordstrom
I feel that the use of information technology for strategic purposes can be a huge factor in the overall success of a business. A business that that refuses to keep up with the times will find itself left in the past. Sears comes to mind when I think of a business that hasn't done so well with keeping up with this. I remember growing up and hearing about the sears catalog and how great it was, granted this well before the time where everyone had internet access at home. The concept of bringing the store to the home of the consumer was a great tool to make money back then just as much as it is now. The new way of doing that is through the use of information technology. While doing some research on this topic, I came across an article that was talking about the company Nordstrom and how they use IT as part of their strategy to continue to provide exceptional customer service, which is the foundation of their business. This company uses IT so that sales associates can see what a customer has bought in the past and then this information is used to aid in the future shopping experiences. Another strategic use of IT would be the mobile application that allows customers to shop from anywhere. integrating mobile shopping with the social media app interest allows customers to see what is popular, which ultimately benefits both the customer and Nordstrom. Nowadays people have the internet literally at their fingertips 24/7 and it is important to strategically use information technology for a company to stay viable.
