Questions

2. Describe the social responsibility dimensions of Fruit Guys that are discussed in the video. What are the implications for HR?

3. Honesty and ethics are mentioned by the CEO of Fruit Guys to be especially important to the organizational culture. The video doesn't mention exactly how ethics is made part of the organizational culture but what would be some ways that employees at Fruit Guys would know that ethics is important for success?

4. What is HR's role in organizational ethics?

5. What do you think will be the most important challenges for HR at Fruit Guys in the next five years?

6. Fruit Guys has a very small HR staff. What are some special issues of HR in smaller organizations?

7. Based on the CEO and other manager in the video, it appears that HR at Fruit Guys is expected to be involved in all three roles of HR: Strategic, Operational/Employee Advocate, and Administrative (see Figure 1-5 from your text).  Describe an example of HR activities at Fruit Guys required for each of these roles.

1. Organizational culture is shared values and beliefs by all the people who work in the organization. The CEO and its employees in the Fruit Guys have created a very positive environment. Members in the company are honest to each other, they share their passion, and ideas. Some of them also put their investment into the company, therefore, people are doing their job for themselves. But this, they are also participating in something bigger than themselves. Therefore, they work hard with enthusiasm.

2. The FRUIT GUYS not only sell organic products, but also conventional goods. However, even for conventional goods, they are trying the best to provide their customer with the locally grown, sustainable, organic products.

3. "A written code of ethics and standards of conduct

Training on ethical behavior for all executives, managers, and employees

Advice to employees on ethical situations they face, often given by HR

Systems for confidential reporting of ethical misconduct or questionable behavior." (Robert, John, Sean, &Patricia, 2017, p. 29)

4. According to Robert, et al., HR's role in organizational ethics is to evaluate, identify the current state of ethical culture, and then help the organization to develop ethics trainings and creating policies that encourage employees to report misconduct. Also, HR will be monitoring corporate values and being alert for conditions that encourage unethical behavior.

5. The Fruit Guys is developing, therefore, the challenges for HR at Fruit Guys in the next five years will be lacking a systematic management of human resource when the company expands. When the number of employees increases, the difficulty of sharing values, maintaining the organizational culture, and controlling organizational ethics will be increased too. Therefore, a department for HR is required significantly.

6. Compensation issues are one of the major problem that HR in smaller organizations have to face. Smaller organizations rarely have the ability to offer the same compensation as big organizations. Therefore, to attract and retain the employees, HR have to create positive organizational culture, bring everyone together, and let them be part of something bigger than themselves.

Scope of work is another issue for small organizations. Employees must take more roles in the company. Like the CEO of Fruit Guys, he is playing roles of administrative assistant, marketing director, public relations representatives and so on. So it is important and difficult to hire people who have the ability and willing to take less compensation than in other large organizations.

7. For strategic, the CEO of Fruit Guys creates an positive organization culture which brings employees together and be part of the company. Employees in Fruit Guys are working hard because they are doing it for themselves.
