Problem
What distinctive roles and approaches did the Franciscan, Dominican, and Jesuit religious orders undertake in their missionary efforts to convert the natives to Christianity? In what ways were the rights and dignity of indigenous Americans sometimes recognized and defended? In what ways were they often ignored and abused? What is "inculturation", and how did this start to impact some Catholic missionary efforts around the globe? Do you think that Christianity is justified in perceiving itself as being obligated to spread the good news (gospel) of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth? Why so / why not?
