Problem 1: Thinking of the United States as a capitalist nation with some socialist elements, in what ways do you benefit from government intervention in the economy?
Problem 2: Resistance strategies are ways that workers can assert some degree of autonomy in a workplace that increasingly exerts control and keeps workers under surveillance. What sorts of actions qualify as individual resistance strategies? What sorts of actions qualify as collective resistance strategies? Have you ever participated in anything like this?
Problem 3: Have you ever boycotted a product? If so, what was the product, and what was your motivation? Do you believe that individual boycotting and protests against corporations ultimately have an impact on a company's policies toward its employees and the public? Explain why.
Problem 4: For the past several years, there has been a movement to raise the federal minimum wage to $15.00 per hour, on grounds that anything less is exploitative and impossible to live on. Think about a job you've held in the past. Were you allowed to discuss your wages with other employees at your workplace? Should a corporation have to pay its employees a living wage? Is it ethical that large corporations make millions of dollars in profit while their employees are forced to depend on charity to feed their families?
