In this project we intend to compare the several

Assignment

In this project, we intend to compare the several transmission line parameters for each of the three types of basic transmission line structures. Accordingly, use Matlab to compute and graph the following:

I. Series Resistance R:

Note that the series resistance R contains the skin resistance Rs for each of the 3 types of lines. Hence, plot R/Rs versus a linear dimension of the line structure from 0.1 to 100 mm. For the coaxial line, assume the ratio of the conductor diameters to be b/a = 2. Draw all three graphs on the same plot.

II. Series Inductance L:

Note that the series inductance L contains the dielectric permeability µ for each of the 3 types of lines. Hence, plot L/µ versus (i) d/w in the range (0.1, 10) for the parallel plate line; (ii) D/2a in the range (1, 10) for the two-wire line; and (iii) b/a in the range (1.1, 10) for the coaxial line. Draw all three graphs on the same plot.

III. Shunt Conductance G:

Note that the shunt conductance G contains the dielectric conductivity σ for each of the 3 types of lines. Hence, plot G/σ versus (i) w/d in the range (0.1, 10) for the parallel plate line; (ii) D/2a in the range (1, 10) for the two-wire line; and (iii) b/a in the range (1.1, 10) for the coaxial line. Draw all three graphs on the same plot.

IV. Shunt Capacitance C:

Note that the shunt capacitance C contains the dielectric permittivity ε for each of the 3 types of lines. Hence, plot C/ε versus (i) w/d in the range (0.1, 10) for the parallel plate line; (ii) D/2a in the range (1, 10) for the two-wire line; and (iii) b/a in the range (1.1, 10) for the coaxial line. Draw all three graphs on the same plot.

V. Characteristic Impedance Z0:

Suppose we assume that each of the three types of lines is lossless. Hence, recalling the expression for the characteristic impedance of a lossless line, plot (i) Z0 (appropriately normalized) versus d/w in the range (0.1, 10) for the parallel plate line; (ii) Z0 (appropriately normalized) versus D/2a in the range (1, 10) for the two-wire line; and (iii) Z0 (appropriately normalized) versus b/a in the range (1.1, 10) for the coaxial line. Draw all three graphs on the same plot.
