In this paper, I will discuss the facets involved in developing leadership styles and what leadership styles are based upon within various organizations. Leadership style is the manner and approach a leader used in providing direction, motivating people and implementing plans. In this lesson learning about the variety of leadership styles, I have been able to take something positive away from each style. Furthermore, throughout this paper, I will use examples along with discussing the strategies and interventions that can be applied to motivating people to accomplish goals.
My personal favorite of the leadership styles is the "participative leadership style" and the primary probable choice for me to use when in a leadership role. For instance, I learned from each style there would be relevant events given the work environment and situation at hand for the proper style. Because there are times, where management must utilize a combination of leadership styles necessary to reach a common objective and goal. The text stated "First, effective leaders possess and use more than one style of leadership" as this is necessary for having overall effective leadership, as well as "Managers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the different categories of leader behavior outlined in path goal theory and to try new behaviors when the situation calls for them" (Kinicki, p356, 2009). In addition, with this information the author concluded by saying that, "Second, a small set of employee characteristics and environmental factors are relevant contingency factors" (Kinicki, p356, 2009).
