Example 6.3: Stream Acting as a Bath
In the process of Example 6.2, the flow rte of streams 1′ and 2′ is made very high, while the state of streams 1, 2, and 1′ are the same as in the previous example. Repeat the calculation of entropy generation for these new conditions.
Example 6.8: Choosing the Cooling Source
Water at 50 °C is to be cooled to in a flow process to 30 °C. This can be done either by mixing it with ice at 0 °C, or with water at 25 °C. Perform a second-law analysis of this process to determine which method is thermodynamically more efficient.
Additional data: The latent heat of ice melting is 332 kJ/kg. Assume the surroundings to be at 25 °C.
