in the 2011 federal election 306 of the

In the 2011 federal election, 30.6% of the electorate voted for the New Democratic Party (NDP).
(a) A year later, a national poll of 1836 respondents indicated that 36% support the NDP. Test whether this is sufficient evidence to show that the NDP support has increased since the election. Use the .05 level of significance and show your manual calculations.

(b) Suppose you wanted to estimate the national level of support for the NDP using a 95% confidence interval with a margin of error of 1%. What sample size would be required?

(c) Suppose that, in a random sample of 17 University of Ottawa students from Quebec, 8 indicated a preference for the NDP. Test whether this is sufficient evidence to indicate that the level of support for the NDP among U of O students from Quebec is higher than 30.6%. Use the .05 level of significance and show your manual calculations. Why does this not allow us to infer anything about the national level of support for the NDP?
