Collaborative Brainstorming
Brainstorming can be a productive method for generating problem- solving ideas. You can improve your brainstorming skills through practice.
Your Task. In teams of four or five, analyze a problem on your campus such as the following: unavailable classes, unrealistic degree requirements, a lack of student intern programs, poor parking facilities, an inadequate registration process, a lack of diversity among students on campus, and so forth. Use brainstorming techniques to generate ideas that clarify the problem and explore its solutions. Each team member should prepare a cluster diagram to record the ideas generated. Either individually or as a team, organize the ideas into an outline with three to five main points and numerous subpoints. Assume that your ideas will become part of a letter to be sent to an appropriate campus offi- cial or to your campus newspaper discussing the problem and your solution. Remember, however, your role as a student. Be polite, positive, and constructive-not negative, hostile, or aggressive.
