In August Wilson's Fences, two main metaphors are utilized throughout the play: the concept of the fence (border/barrier/boundary) and the game play of baseball.
For this journal entry, I'd like you to discuss ONE of these metaphors and discuss TWO key scenes where this metaphor is used. In your entry, be sure to note how Wilson uses the concepts of fences or baseball to demonstrate character relationships, points of view, and life's events.
For example, how does Troy perceive his life to be like a baseball game? How does he use baseball terms and concepts when discussing his relationships with his wife Rose and his son(s)--even his relationship with his mistress?
Likewise, how does the family's fence serve as a symbol for things left unsaid and undone? How does it keep people out? How does it metaphorically keep people in? Why does Rose want the fence?
Whatever two scenes you select to discuss, be sure to add a quote or two
