Enron Creditors to Receive 14 to 18 Cents on Dollar
In a court-approved plan for reorganization, Enron, the world's largest bankrupt corporation, will pay 14.4 cents on the dollar to its Enron North America creditors and 18.3 cents on the dollar to Enron Corp. creditors. The plan has survived a challenge by creditors based on the unequal treatment. Trials continue on over 100 charges aimed at senior executives of Enron, some of whom have pleaded guilty to conspiracy and fraud charges in hiding the truth of Enron's precarious financial position.
Disregarding the effect of bankruptcy itself, discuss the general law applying to the rights and responsibilities of Enron, its officers, shareholders, and creditors.
