Implementing flexible scheduling and work from home


Problem: Something that cannot be done at my workplace, but if it could, would fundamentally change how our organization achieves its goals, grows, and improves would be implementing flexible scheduling and work from home opportunities. Flexible scheduling in manufacturing is a growing trend. In all workplaces, "Work from home" has become much more accepted, desired, and encouraged since the Covid-19 pandemic. In our office and management positions, we utilize both of these things, however, on our food manufacturing floor, due to being a 24/7 operation, we cannot offer these same things. Being able to offer these would boost employee morale, retention, and decrease absenteeism. Being a 24/7 operation, we work most positions 4 days on and 4 days off, 12 hour shifts. This does allow some flexibility as far as being able to trade days, or ask people to pick up your shift rather than taking PTO, but the flexibility I am referring to is the growing tend of "Pick your own hours."
