Assignment Problem: Need to do a GAMS program and write a report on it to as part of the requirement.
The aim of this project is to evaluate the approach for the optimal design and sustainable implementation of Distributed Solar Energy Systems that seeks to satisfy electricity demands of a small community of about 300 inhabitants.
Candidate technologies to be explored are stand-alone PV systems for each household or a centralized off grid / on grid solar distributed energy system.
The objective of this project is the optimal selection of either of the two candidate technologies.
The objective function to be minimized is the annualized overall investment cost and the annual operating cost of the system.
The average annual electricity consumption by electrical appliances per household is 1,600 kWh.
Cost of candidate technologies (stand-alone PVs and centralized Distributed energy Systems - DES can be obtained from the internet).
A) An optimization problem must be formulated that accounts for the cost and operation of candidate technologies.
B) Formulate an optimization problem mathematically for both scenarios, explain and justify the selection of variables and their meanings, implement the optimization problem in GAMS and hence calculate the optimum using appropriate solvers.
C) Provide required results analysis and explain the results in terms of the set problem. Explain how trustful results are, any additional activity you took to increase trust and why.
A GAMS IDE file and a report explaining steps undertaken and results obtained will be required.
