Description: Some special events such as world EXPOS constitute one of the fastest growing and most exciting economic and tourism phenomena in countries and destinations. World EXPOS are onetime events that usually cause profound impacts, both short term and long term on the host communities. According to Chan et al (2015), an EXPO marks a certain “coming of age for a city” which aids in the physical development of a city as well as the image of the nation abroad.EXPOS, lead to job creations due to the large construction projects thatprecede the EXPO in addition to an increase in local and international tourism, restaurant boons, hostels car rental agencies, and other business. the shanghai 2010 EXPO is reported to have cost a whopping $50 billion according to Chinese news media, which is about two times the amount on the 2008 Beijing Olympics.Considering the significant expenses that goes into the EXPO, this paper will critically evaluate the shanghai 2010 EXPO which occurred from 1st may to end of October 2010 in shanghai china.
It will evaluate the links to economics in terms of the emergingneoliberalism in chine from the perspective of urban development. Finally, the paper will outline the impacts of the EXPO in the host city, Shanghai .
