Imagine you are traveling in a commuter plane that crash lands on a deserted mountaintop. There are seven people on the plane—you and six others. Of the other six,
one is a skilled mountain climber
one is a cook
one is a doctor
one is a master cub scout
one is a hunter
one is a manager
And then there is you.
Who would be the most logical choice as the leader of this group as you begin to assess the situation and plan how to survive and be rescued? You may defer to the mountain climber as you begin your journey down the mountain. As night begins to fall you may look to the hunter to provide food and the cook to prepare a meal. The master cub scout may be able to organize an effort to build a shelter. And should anyone be injured, the doctor could lend his/her expertise to render assistance. These are all situational circumstances that would influence who would lead at any time.
Who would you pick as the leader of the group?
