STRESS VIDEO AND ASSIGNMENT
https://www.ted.com/talks/kelly_mcgonigal_how_to_make_stress_your_friend
Taking a current example from your own life, describe:
• The stressor (what was going on in the internal/external environment that could trigger a stress response)
• The cognitions evoked (what category of irrational thinking would these fall into?)
• The emotions arising from the situation
• Any behaviours that accompanied that stressful response (identify any potential escape and avoidance behaviours)
1. If you were acting as your own therapist, how would you challenge your own cognitions?
What kind of homework would you assign yourself ?
2. After watching the video, how could you have re-framed your response so that stress was less likely or changed from negative to positive stress?
3. Are there any conditions for which you think this approach would not work? Give an example.
