There are many reasons why most adults are not successful at maintaining regular physical activity.  Identifying the obstacles that impede your progress toward becoming active can help you develop strategies to overcome stumbling blocks before you encounter them.

Complete Lab 2.2 | Overcoming Barriers to Being Active  from your textbook and reflect on the results. Submit a reflection where you express your own thoughts and sentiments.  This is an opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings from a fresh perspective. The only requirement is that you include the components outlined below in your submission in a format that is accessible by the instructor.

Reflective writing is meant to be more personal and should be less formal than other types of academic writing.  However, if you incorporate ideas from others, be certain to cite all outside sources, including personal interviews, print or broadcast media, as well as printed resources, using APA style.

Choose one of the following formats that helps you to best communicate your Barriers & Solutions activity. The length of your submission will be determined by your chosen format and inclusion of the following components.  Construct your activity using clear and concise language that follows a logical sequence. Review your activity before submission for typographical and grammatical accuracy. Sample formats and suggested lengths are listed below.

Written Paper Use paragraph structure. Your paper should be typed and double-spaced, with 1-inch margins, using APA style. Your paper should be no more than 2 to 3 pages in length

Overcoming Barriers to Being Active Worksheets

Complete the worksheets associated with Lab 2.2 in the textbook. The worksheets will not be graded and do not need to be submitted for review.

Identify Barriers

Recall the last few times you considered adding exercise to your life, but didn't follow through.  What held you back? From your worksheets, identify the three barriers that are most likely to interfere with incorporating regular physical activity into your life. If you are currently getting regular physical activity think about what could interfere in the future.

Develop Strategies

For each barrier develop two to three strategies that will help you conquer that barrier in the future. Review the Suggestions for Overcoming Physical Activity Barriers to help you cultivate your strategies.  Be creative and don't be afraid to ask others what they might do. Consider your barriers and strategies when you are developing your Fitness Plan.
