1- Hi all, I posted an example of an argument that from an episode of the Big Bang Theory in Instructor Insights, but I thought I would share the argument here. In the opening of this episode, Sheldon makes the following argument about Leonard's behavior:
Leonard drinks soy milk.
Soy milk contains estrogen-like compounds.
Therefore, Leonard is acting like a hysterical woman.
Can you all spot the fallacy in this argument?
2-Example:
A majority of people overeat.
Governor Chris Christie had bad eating habits.
Therefore, Governor Chris Christie decided to undergo lap band surgery.
In a sentence or two, describe the argument.
Rewrite each argument as a syllogism.
Identify whether the argument contains logical errors or is an example of good syllogistic reasoning
3- If Wayne only associated with people of his own race, he would be considered prejudice.
Wayne does only hangout with people of his race.
Some people agree with Wayne. (invalid syllogism) Some people is meant to say "all people," but all people as we know aren't prejudice.
In a sentence or two, describe the argument.
Rewrite each argument as a syllogism.
Identify whether the argument contains logical errors or is an example of good syllogistic reasoning
