The following questions are designed to familiarize you with the approach a natural science scholar may take in their literature reviews and in the presentation of their research findings. Base your responses on the two student-written essay models.
1.) Identify the primary focus for each the essays. How do you know?
2.) How does each writer organize their arguments in the essays? How does the author integrate multiple sources in the literature review?
3.) Look through the References page. Do you believe these are appropriate sources for natural science research? Why or why not?
4. ) Are you easily able to identify the thesis sentence(s) in each essay? Why or why not? Cut & paste it here.
5.) Review the APA formatting of the first page (how does the header look? Is there a title page? Is there an abstract). Is there something missing? Be specific. Now look at the APA in-text citations? Is there something missing or is it correct? Be specific.
6.) Does the paper use figures/images? If so how are they labeled? Are they cited? Are they referenced in-text and if so how are they referenced and what is their connection to the thesis?
7.) As noted from your Reading Scholarly Sources review were there keywords or scientific definitions/concepts or terms that were defined and used appropriately to enhance the thesis and understanding of the paper?
8.) What additional questions for your first draft or for the natural section do you have?
