Peggy McIntosh mentions in her article, "White and Male Privilege," that many genders and races are unaware of their privilege. Privilege is a topic that is not always talked about and many people are unaware that they actually have the privilege. She mainly focuses on how whites and males are unaware of the privilege that they have due to them not being told about in early in their life. McIntosh explains in her article, "I think whites are carefully taught not to recognize white privilege, as males are taught not to recognize male privilege" (McIntosh, 1998). McIntosh explains that whites and males are taught not to recognize their privilege. She acknowledges that white individuals if they have privilege, it is a privilege that is typically unearned. McIntosh relates white privilege to male privilege in the way that males are hesitant to acknowledge that they have the privilege. She explains in her article that every person regardless of their gender or race should be aware of the type of privilege that they do have and every person should be treated the same way regardless of their privilege.
