Problem: Use your epidemiology knowledge and ability to identify potential health hazards within your community. Act as a "Disease Detective" by employing epidemiology to solve real world public health challenges. Ask the right questions to gather information about how something could be a potential health hazard: What is the hazard? How could it make someone sick? How could someone be exposed to the hazard? What illness(s) could the hazard cause? Using epidemiology and an awareness of their community, students will study the answers to these questions to uncover health hazards in their community, whether the problem is standing water near a playground, runoff from an industrial site, limited access to fresh produce or safety hazards near elementary schools.
