Assignment Task: First, see the sidebar on page 158 of Kidder. The philosopher John Rawls wants to answer the question: What is a just world? For example, what kind of social policies should be in place that benefits everyone? To do that he wants to identify policies that a person with impartial judgment would agree to, meaning a person that wasn't biased by their own circumstances.
Second, imagine some social policies that you--as a person of impartial judgment--think should be in place in a just world. For example, there could be a wealth tax, an equal rights amendment, and so on... What would you suggest? Share several policies with the class.
