Part I

Supervisors of teams in criminal justice departments are responsible for balancing the talents and personalities of diverse individuals as well as determining how best to communicate with everyone.

There are many benefits to workplace diversity, including improved cultural insights, variety of perspectives, better employee engagement, wider range of skills, and increased creativity and innovation. Therefore, having a diverse leadership team is critical in our modern society. However, diverse teams may create gender or cultural challenges to be navigated with sensitivity.

Give an example of an organizational challenge based on gender or culture that may arise in a criminal justice agency. Choose at least one of the following prompts for this discussion:

i. Which gender or cultural factors should leadership consider when making decisions in this situation? Which evidence-based leadership practices can be used to prevent or mitigate this challenge?

ii. If you were making decisions in this situation, how might you explain your rationale for the decisions to your direct-report employees? How might you explain it differently to your manager?

Part II

i. Describe the selected criminal justice organization that is currently undergoing organizational challenges.

ii. Summarize 3 organizational challenges the organization might experience. Discuss how these organizational challenges affect the structure and systems of the organization.

iii. Explain how the organization has addressed cultural and gender challenges at the leadership level.

iv. Apply a different philosophy or practice for effective organizational behavior leadership to each of the 3 challenges. Recommend a strategy for preventing or reducing each organizational challenge based on the philosophy or practice.

Part III

Difficulties in trust, conflict management, and negotiation processes can derail leadership and team building in criminal justice organizations. Team leaders are expected to manage their teams by mitigating conflict and negotiating solutions.

i. Which conflict management styles are effective in criminal justice organizations? Give an example to substantiate your rationale.

ii. How does the negotiation process influence organizational behavior and management in criminal justice organizations? Give an example to substantiate your rationale.

Part IV

Using effective organizational management strategies, 1,050- to 1,400-word report that drafts a plan for organizational change to share with other decision-making leaders. Describe to your fellow leaders how you plan to effectively implement the needed changes that address an issue in your organization. There is no specific format for the report as long as ideas are communicated clearly.

Your report should include the following information based on your research:

i. Identify the issue and why there is a need to implement organizational changes to your organization. Define a preferred change process strategy to deal with the issue.

ii. Explain the handling of resistance to change. Identify key barriers to effective communication. Indicate the methods needed to improve communication regarding the needed changes.

iii. Describe effective organizational management strategies that can be used to assess the changes after they are implemented. Explain how trust, conflict resolution, and negotiation influence the plan for organizational change.
