Identify family of law and explain how they use jury process

Problem

There are five different families of law around the globe. In each system, the court functions in very different ways. For common law nations, the jury plays an essential role in the criminal justice process. In civil law nations, they do not have the same power or effect. In other families of law, juries may not be used at all. For this week's Discussion Board, you will evaluate the role of the jury process. Should more countries follow the lead of common law nations, relying on "juries of peers"? Or should common law nations limit the effect of juries?

Research at least one foreign country to compare with the United States. Identify the family of law and explain how they use (or do not use) the jury process. Has that country made any changes in how they use (or do not use) the jury process? Which process do you feel leads to a better outcome? Explain why.
