Identify common misconception about mental illness

Problem 1:

a) Briefly identify one common misconception about mental illness.

b) Discuss the impact this misconception may have on a person with a mental health condition when they access health services.

Problem 2:

a) Through a process of reflection, explore your beliefs and attitudes regarding mental health and illness prior to commencing this unit and briefly explain how these were formed.

b) Drawing on your reflection and on the required reading of Cox et al., (2021) (see QUT readings link in Canvas), discuss and justify how you, as a nursing student, would provide culturally safe and person-centered care for a person experiencing stigma following a mental health diagnosis.

Problem 3: Understanding how experiences of trauma impact a person presenting to health care services, discuss how you can practice inclusion and support for people experiencing a mental health condition (during your clinical placement) through trauma informed care. Your response should focus on at least one component of the trauma informed care framework (4R's of 5P's).
